An Eye For an Eye

Revenge is a fool's game

The problem with an eye for an eye
is that it never stops at an eye.
As the pain of the wound festers
an eye will no longer do.

An eye for a leg,
for an arm,
for a heart,
until the enemy is left with nothing.

The loss of the eye
leads to blind hatred.

No matter the still remaining eye,
remaining legs,
the now cold heart.

For that one lost eye
— to see through it again —
you’d dim the whole world.
Wouldn’t you.
